A Kalibr cruise missile has been successfully test fired for the first time from a Russian submarine moored in a port.
The test launch of the Novator 3M-14 Kalibr land-attack cruise missiles from the Project 885 Yasen-class submarine Severodvinsk was reported by Russian newspaper Izvestia , citing an announcement by the Russian Navy.
According to the navy, sailors of the Northern Fleet “successfully launched Kalibr cruise missiles without leaving [for] the open sea, directly from the berth wall”.
In the future, such exercises will be included in the compulsory combat training of all submarine crews with cruise missiles on board, the navy added.
