Army leadership will wait until at least 2023 to decide how they will proceed with replacing the M1 Abrams main battle tank, and it may not even be with a tank.
Brigadier General Ross Coffman, director of the Next-Generation Combat Vehicle (NGCV) modernisation, spoke with reporters on 27 March at AUSA Global Force Symposium & Exposition about service plans to develop new combat vehicles. While the service is moving out with development of an Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) to replace the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, as well as a Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV), the one-star general said the Abrams tank replacement decision will have to wait.
