Pentagon budget 2020: US Army cuts JLTV, Bradley Fighting Vehicle, Block 2 Chinook helicopters

The US Army has yet to release a complete list of programmes it is proposing to cut to pay for its modernisation priorities, but a few big-ticket items – including the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), and upgrades to the CH-47F Chinook helicopter – are among those on the chopping block.

Speaking at the Brookings Institute on 14 March, the army’s Undersecretary Ryan McCarthy discussed the service’s fiscal year 2020 (FY 2020) budget request, outlined proposed programme cuts, and explained how freed up funds would be used to develop weapon systems to help the service compete against China or Russia.
