Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has initiated an audit into the state-owned defence holding company Ukroboronprom, which will include a revision of all contracts to assess the transparency of all work under way.
Launched during a meeting of the National Security and Defence Council on 6 March, the audit is part of a new initiative by Poroshenko to ensure that there is no corruption within the defence industry, and will expand government, parliamentary, and public control over defence in Ukraine.
"It should be absolutely transparent [and] ensure full confidence of the Ukrainian society," he said, adding that it will "provide our international partners with the information that will enable us to establish or deepen our co-operation", and demonstrate the openness and transparency of Ukroboronprom.
