US approves Namer engine sale to Israel

The US State Department has approved the sale to Israel of 270 engines for Namer heavy armoured personnel carriers, the Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA) announced on 12 February.

It said the proposed deal is estimated to be worth USD238 million and covers 240 MT 883 powerpacks without transmissions in "full configuration", another 30 in "light configuration", and 179 control and diagnostic systems. The MT 883 is made by MTU and generates 1,497hp.
