Austrian small arms manufacturer Steyr is to develop two maintenance centres in the Sultanate of Oman, the head of the Oman Partnership for Development (OAPFD) offset agency has disclosed.
In comments reported in local media on 22 January, Dr Dhafer bin Awad al-Shanfari revealed that the company would be providing training, equipment, and tools to undertake advanced maintenance of Steyr weapons in-country.
According to Shanfari, the OAPFD is currently managing 11 offset programmes, five of which were launched during 2018. Notable projects launched at the end of 2018 included an innovation centre in collaboration with US helicopter manufacturer Bell, and laboratory support for the country’s Million Date Palms project from Turkish armoured vehicle manufacturer FNSS in conjunction with the University of Arizona.
