The Russian Navy commissioned the first of two new classes of ships during ceremonies held in late December.
The first Karakurt-class Project 22800 guided-missile corvette, Mytishchi , formally entered service at the Baltic Fleet's home base of Baltiysk, Kaliningrad, on 17 December. It will be deployed with the Baltic Fleet's 36th Kuznetsk Missile Ship Brigade.
Three days later after Mytishchi entered service, the first Project 22160 patrol ship Vasily Bykov joined the Black Sea Fleet during a commissioning ceremony held at Novorossiysk naval base on 20 December.
Mytishchi is the first of 18 Karakurt corvettes planned for the Russian Navy, with seven planned to be commissioned before 2021.
