Czech Defence Minister Lubomír Metnar informed the cabinet of ministers on 17 December about plans by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to sign a CZK2.1 billion (USD92.6 million) framework agreement with indigenous small-arms maker Česká Zbrojovka Uherský Brod to supply 34,000 small arms to the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR).
Under the agreement, Česká Zbrojovka will supply 14,000 CZ BREN 2 assault rifles chambered in 5.56×45 mm NATO standard.
The CZ BREN 2 (CZ 806 BREN) is a modified and improved version of the original CZ 805 BREN first adopted by the ACR in 2010 as its standard service rifle.
