United States Forces Japan (USFJ) has established a new command for the US Army’s ballistic missile defence unit in the Tokyo metropolitan region, a Japan Ministry of Defense (MoD) spokesperson told Jane’s on 30 October.
He also pointed out that the new command, which began operations on 16 October, belongs to the US military’s 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, which was recently set up at the US Army’s Sagami General Depot in the city of Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture. The command will come under the control of the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command (94th AAMDC), which is based in Hawaii.
