The 40N6 long-range missile for the S-400 Triumf air-defence system has been accepted for Russian service, the Tass news agency reported on 18 October.

TASS quoted a source in the domestic defence industry who said the missile had been accepted for service and that the Ministry of Defence had started purchasing missiles in September after signing all the necessary documents.

"More than a thousand 40N6 missiles are planned to be purchased under the state armament programme through to 2027 to provide newly formed and rearm existing S-400 regiments of the aerospace forces with them," the source said. "A total of 56 S-400 battalions are planned to be established in the aerospace forces under this programme".
