India and Russia are launching a new department under the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Co-operation (IRIGC-MTC) aimed at "vigorously" deepening bilateral defence ties, official sources told Jane's on 18 October.
The department is expected to focus on enhancing interaction between the two militaries, reviving lapsed bilateral military programmes and organising reciprocal visits by senior service personnel as well as joint training and military exercises.
The 18 year-old IRIGC-MTC, which was extended for a decade in 2010, is likely to be renamed the 'India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military Technical Cooperation' to stress the military aspect of the relationship.
