The US Navy (USN) reached a technical milestone towards the operation of aircraft carrier-borne unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) with the recent installation of Unmanned Aviation Warfare Center (UAWC) equipment aboard USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN 69).
USN officials announced on 16 October the completion of the initial installation phase of the UAWC on 28 September aboard the ship.
Eisenhower ( Ike ) is the first carrier to complete this first phase and be outfitted with the foundational, physical UAWC space, USN officials said. The second phase of installation will equip the UAWC with the systems necessary to operate the MQ-25A Stingray – the first USN operational carrier-based unmanned refuelling aircraft.
