Boeing startup capital business HorizonX Ventures has announced that it has made an investment in US ion thruster specialist Accion Systems, in a move aimed at accelerating the company’s development of innovative satellite propulsion systems.
The company, which was founded in 2014, is responsible for the design of a unique ionic propulsion technology called tiled ionic liquid electrospray (TILE), which aims to extend the operational lives of satellites by generating increased thrust from smaller amounts of propellant.
Accion CEO and co-founder Natalya Bailey said, “Our TILE product family gives satellites greater capabilities, and at the size of a postage stamp, it fundamentally rewrites the relationship between mass and propulsion.
