US offers to meet Philippine air combat requirements

The Philippines Defense Secretary, Delfin Lorenzana, has confirmed offers from the United States to supply platforms to meet the Philippine Air Force's (PAF's) air combat requirements.

In comments to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on 10 October, Lorenzana said that the US had offered the Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) the Lockheed Martin F-16 fighter aircraft and also combat helicopters.

Lorenzana did not specify the type of helicopter but Jane's understands that the US offer features the Sikorsky UH-60A Black Hawk platform. However, he also said in comments reported by the PNA that the two platforms were regarded as "expensive" for the PAF.
