The US Army wants to develop a ‘combat cloud’ to store situational data for easy retrieval for more complete mission command, said US Army Lieutenant General Eric Wesley, director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center.
Such a combat cloud would be the outgrowth of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine-learning programmes and efforts, Lt Gen Wesley said on 9 October during a presentation at the Association of United States Army (AUSA) exhibition in Washington, DC.
“When people talk about artificial intelligence and when most people think about artificial intelligence, they think of weapons systems independently or autonomously fighting each other,” he said.
