Australia-based company DroneShield announced on 10 October the launch of a new system to counter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) called the DroneCannon Remote Weapon (RW).
Described as a lightweight soft kill UAV-jammer that can be used with any hard kill remote weapon station, the DroneCannon RW is “system agnostic”, thus enabling manufacturers of unmanned weapon systems to add a soft kill option to their existing products, the company said in a statement.
DroneShield pointed out that the system can be used either as a standalone or vehicle-mounted product, adding that many militaries “are seeking soft-kill solutions that integrate with their existing hard-kill systems”.
According to the company website, the DroneCannon RW module forces a single UAV or swarms of them into a fail-safe mode to hover or descend slowly, thus allowing the operator to “utilise a kinetic weapon or other mounted equipment to more easily neutralise the target”.
