Election of moderate Croat in Bosnian presidential election to trigger violent protests in Western Herzegovina and Mostar

On 7 October 2018, Bosnia held presidential and parliamentary elections at both the state and entity level.

Preliminary election results in Bosnia’s two autonomous entities, the Serb Republic (Republika Srpska: RS) and the Bosnian Muslim (‘Bosniak’) and Croat-dominated Federation entity, show that the respective nationalist parties are currently in the lead. At the state level, preliminary election results suggest that the Serb and Bosniak seats at the country’s tripartite presidency have been won by nationalist Milorad Dodik of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (Savez nezavisnih socijaldemokrata: SNSD), and Šefik Džaferović of the Party of Democratic Action (Stranka demokratske akcije: SDA), respectively.
