French Defence Minister Florence Parly has ordered the acceleration of A330 Multi Roll Transport Tanker (MRTT) deliveries to the French Air Force (FAF), the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA), the French defence procurement agency, announced on 21 September.
As a result, the FAF will have 12 MRTTs by 2023, two years earlier than planned, the DGA said.
The MRTT will replace FAF C-135FR and KC-135R aerial tankers, which are nearly 60 years old, and A310 and A340 transports. The tanker-transports will support the air component of France’s Force de Frappe nuclear component, ready response force, and force projection, as well as conduct emergency medical evacuation, according to the DGA.
