The first Lockheed Martin MH-60R multirole maritime helicopter for Saudi Arabia was handed over at a ceremony on 13 September.
The event, which was attended by senior officials from industry, the US military, and the Royal Saudi Navy (RSN), including the service’s commander Lieutenant General Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Ghafili, marked a major milestone in the procurement of 10 MH-60Rs that was launched in 2013 and signed in 2015.
Saudi Arabia is acquiring the MH-60R to satisfy a requirement for the navy’s Eastern Fleet, with the new helicopters joining the RSN’s existing rotary-winged fleet that comprises six Airbus Helicopters AS365 Dauphins, 12 Airbus Helicopters AS 532SC Cougars, and 15 Airbus Helicopters AS565SA Panthers.
