Naval Group competes for corvette contract in Brazil

The French shipbuilder Naval Group is competing to build four Tamandaré-class corvettes for the Brazilian Navy, offering the existing multimission vessel Gowind 2500 and significant technology-transfer (ToT) package and offsets.
The corvette project is the second-highest acquisition priority for the navy, behind the submarines development programme (PROSUB).
Nine main contractors are competing for the opportunity, with the announcements of shortlist and best and final offer (BAFO) scheduled in October and December respectively, the Brazilian Navy told Jane’s . The ships are scheduled to be delivered within eight years following contracts award by EMGEPRON.
Cost estimates for the project run as high as BRL6.2 billion (USD1.5 billion).
