The United States has pledged to offer more support to Ukraine in helping it bolster its defence capability, leading on from a surge in assistance for the Eastern European nation as tensions with Russia continue.
US special representative to Ukraine Kurt Volker met with President Petro Poroshenko in Ukraine on 2 September to discuss the two nations’ common concerns regarding Russia, during which they exchanged opinions on the strengthening of the Ukrainian Army’s military capability, as well as the cooperation between the two nations to prevent Russia interfering in Ukrainian elections.
Poroshenko used the meeting to thank the United States for continuing to implement sanctions against Russia, noting that the release of Ukrainian hostages from Russia is important, a statement from the president explained.
