SteelRock Technologies (SR) conducted its hard launch during the Farnborough International Airshow. The UK start up is marketing its family of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and soft-kill UAV countermeasures and unveiled the WO3 Protector Counter-IED UAV at the show.
Designed by a serving explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) operator, the device couples an improvised explosive device (IED) disrupter with SteelRock Technologies’ SR-1 Eagle Owl UAV. The requirement was to enable a disrupter to be brought up to an IED over difficult terrain. Experience gained in Afghanistan demonstrated that in broken terrain, current ground systems were often unable to approach IEDs forcing operators to be exposed to greater risk.
