China’s State Administration of Science, Technology, and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND) has signed an agreement with the Kuwaiti government to increase defence industrial co-operation.
Details of the agreement were not disclosed, but came as the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on 9 July.
Other bilateral agreements covering Chinese investment in Kuwait, energy, and export credit were also signed with Kuwaiti government bodies including the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA), Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, and the Kuwaiti Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority.
Chinese communications firm Huawei also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) covering the advancement of smart cities in Kuwait, as well as the development of e-commerce and digital transformation.
