DARPA seeks to model conflicts for military planners

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking to develop algorithms and new technologies to model the operational environment, enabling military planners to make more informed and quicker decisions.

Today, the techniques for understanding the issues behind a conflict are labour intensive, and there is no automation support to allow for the systematic exploration of a large number of alternatives or hypothesis about a conflict's underlying problems. DARPA’s Causal Exploration of Complex Operational Environments (Causal Exploration) project hopes to address this by providing new capabilities.
