DSA 2018: Korean Air and Deftech look to co-produce unmanned systems

17 April 2018

The Korean Air Aerospace Division (KAL-ASD) – the aerospace and defence arm of South Korea’s national airline – has entered a collaborative partnership with Malaysian company DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies (Deftech) to market and manufacture unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).

Under the arrangement, to be made formal through a letter of intent signed by the two parties at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2018 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, KAL-ASD has agreed to transfer technologies and knowhow to the Malaysian company to facilitate production of a range of KAL-ASD-designed and development systems.

These include the Korean Unmanned System (KUS)-FS medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) UAV, the KUS-FT tactical UAV, the KUS-VH vertical helicopter, the KUS-VT tiltrotor, and the KUS-HD hybrid drone multicopter.
