US helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky has entered into a partnership with German aircraft propulsion specialist MTU Aero Engines, with the goal of supporting a bid for the country’s CH-53G fleet replacement programme.
The deal, announced on 1 March, sees MTU join GE Aviation in Sikorsky’s team to offer the CH-53K King Stallion to meet the country’s heavy lift rotorcraft requirement.
Extending the existing partnership between the three companies, which together are already supplying the CH-53K to the US Marine Corps, the deal will see MTU claim an 18% share of the German programme’s engine work if the CH-53K is selected by the country’s air force.
