The Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 5 February it would not award a CZK1.27 billion (USD62.29 million) contract to Tatra Trucks to modernise 33 Army of the Czech Republic (ACR) ShKH vz.77 DANA 152 mm self-propelled howitzers (SPHs), despite the programme having received approval and funding from the Czech government in July 2017.
“The DANA system's calibre and range do not meet NATO standards. The justification for the modernisation of the system based on the argument that there are large stockpiles of [152 mm] ammunition is not a solution, and does not warrant a public procurement,” Czech Defence Minister Karla Slechtova told media on 5 February.
