New Czech prime minister wants to deploy troops to Libya

17 December 2017

Recently appointed Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis has declared his intention to deploy Army of the Czech Republic (ACR) personnel to Libya. This is part of a unilateral effort announced on 13 December to help curb the flow of illegal migrants from the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa into the European Union via the troubled North African state.

Babis said that his cabinet already has a mandate to send funds to Libyan authorities in Tripoli to counter the smuggling of illegal migrants from its territory to the shores of southern European EU member states.

Babis said that for him the key problem to the migrant crisis is the smugglers who profit from transporting illegals to EU shores.
