North Korea says it will build more nuclear-capable weapons

13 December 2017

Two weeks after test-firing its Hwaseong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) North Korea announced on 13 December that it plans to increase the quality and quantity of its nuclear weapons.

Addressing scientists and workers at a munitions industry conference, North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un was quoted by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) as saying that he believes they will “bolster up the nuclear force in quality and quantity, manufacture more ‘latest weapons’ and equipment of Korean style, and thus fulfil their honourable mission”.

He also congratulated them for the development of the Hwaesong-15 ICBM, stating that demonstrates that the North Korean industry is “capable of manufacturing any weaponry with our own efforts”.
