CAE has partnered with Rockwell Collins to advance Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) capabilities for distributed training exercises, with flight training as one of the developmental efforts currently under way.
In the quest to develop LVC integrated training, the addition of the live flying aircraft has consistently been the most challenging aspect. However, virtual and constructive integration, which networks multiple simulators into a common environment for a Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) training mission is already well established.
One significant issue is the necessary communication bandwidth into the aircraft along with the necessary enclaves for segregating data according to security levels. The exercise utilised a newer generation Rockwell Collins pod that contains sufficient bandwidth to send virtual and constructive threats up to the aircraft and then send data such as missile and aircraft position back down in real time with relatively low latency.
