Syria claims improved performance against Israeli strikes

06 December 2017

The Syrian military has claimed it shot down five Israeli missiles on 1 and 4 December.

The state Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) cited an informed source as saying that Israel launched 12 surface-to-surface missiles at a military site in Damascus province at 0030 h on 1 December; two were shot down by air defences, but the site was still damaged.

Israeli officials did not comment on what was the latest in a series of suspected Israeli strikes against targets in Syria, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning to Iran. “We will not allow a regime that is hell-bent on the annihilation of the Jewish state to…entrench itself militarily in Syria, as it seeks to do,” he said on 2 December.
