Mexican Air Force helicopter crash highlights worsening safety record

A Mexican Air Force (FAM) Bell 407GX helicopter crashed on 28 November during an aerial spraying sortie as part of a drug eradication operation northwest of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, killing its pilot, according to the Mexican Secretariat of National Defence (SEDENA). The aircraft was one of 15 Bell 407GXs delivered two years ago.

This crash follows of rash of other crashes for the FAM.

A Bell 412EP helicopter crashed during a training exercise on 6 October and killed all seven on board. On 12 September an Mi-17 helicopter was extensively damaged in a crash-landing during relief operations in Chiapas, without loss of life.
