Intelsat General (IGC) and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) on 30 August successfully demonstrated the beam switching capabilities of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with one of IGC’s high throughput satellites.
The tests validated the compatibility of the Intelsat EpicNG platform and, specifically, the Intelsat 29e satellite, with the newly developed beam-switching capability of the MQ-9 Predator B Block 5, according to an IGC statement. IGC said this is the first in-flight switch of a MQ-9 on a high throughput satellite (HTS). HTS-class satellites are a new generation of satellites providing higher data throughput and interference mitigation, according to GA-ASI.
