German defence electronics supplier Hensoldt has signed a co-operation agreement with South Korean defence group Huneed Technologies to support the adoption of Mode 5 identification friend or foe (IFF) systems by the South Korean military.

“We are committed to bringing the latest technology capabilities in IFF into the upcoming IFF performance improvement programme of the South Korean armed forces, which will improve the distinction between friendly and hostile forces and thus help avoid friendly fire,” Hensoldt CEO Thomas Müller was quoted by the company as saying on 28 November pointing out that the agreement focuses on the localised production of Mode 5 IFF-related equipment.
