The G5 Sahel Joint Force’s first operation has come to an end, the French Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 22 November.
The MoD said Operation ‘Haw Bi’ (Black Cow) took place between 27 October and 10 November in the ‘triple border’ area where Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso meet and involved personnel from all three countries.
The Nigerien media reported that 200 soldiers from Mali, 200 from Niger, and 350 from Burkina Faso were involved in the operation, which aimed at improving control over the triple border and searching for militants. French troops were deployed in a supporting role with armoured vehicles and explosive ordnance specialists.
