Mitsubishi Materials Corporation (MMC) – part of the Mitsubishi Group conglomerate – said on 23 November that three of its subsidiaries had falsified specification data for products, some of which had been delivered to the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MoD).

MMC said in a statement that the subsidiaries involved in making false claims comprise Mitsubishi Cable Industries (MCI), Mitsubishi Shindoh, and Mitsubishi Aluminium. MMC said industries affected by the “non-conforming products” included aerospace, industrial equipment, electric power, automobiles, and “others”– including shipbuilding.
