Defence & Security 2017: Royal Thai Army, Elbit expand collaboration on mortar and gun systems

09 November 2017

The Royal Thai Army’s (RTA’s) Weapon Production Centre (WPC) has expanded its partnership with Israeli company Elbit Systems, with the parties now collaborating on two programmes: an autonomous truck-mounted mortar (ATMM) and an autonomous truck-mounted gun (ATMG) system.

The ATMM project features the WPC’s production and integration of Elbit’s 120 mm Spear mortar system with a 4x4 truck supplied by Indian company Tata. The ATMG project incorporates Elbit’s ATMOS 155 mm/39-calibre self-propelled howitzer on a 6x6 10-tonne Tatra truck from the Czech Republic.

Under the ATMM project the RTA will install and assemble 10 systems, with four already delivered, and the ATMG programme features 18 systems, 12 of them new orders.
