The system was jointly developed by the Brazilian Army’s Technological Center (CTEx) and ARES Aeroespacial e Defesa, and has attracted interest from the CFN, Jane’s was recently told at CTEx.

The CFN evaluated a 12.7 mm RWS from September–October 2015 at Brazilian Army Evaluations Center (CAEx) and Formosa’s training range, sources told Jane’s on 6 November.

There are no known orders yet, but future Piranha IIIC requirements include RWS for machine guns and 40 mm automatic grenade launchers, a medium-calibre turret with 20-30 mm cannon, and additional armour.
