OSINT Summary: India launches helicopter-borne cross-border raids targeting Myanmar militant bases

11 June 2015

In the wake of several unusually hard-hitting militant attacks on Indian security forces close to the country's northeast border with Myanmar, Indian Army special operations forces struck back on 9 June with helicopter-borne raids on insurgent camps deep inside Myanmar.

The reportedly successful assaults destroyed two camps while inflicting "significant casualties", according to official sources cited in Indian media reports. Unverified estimates suggested 20-50 ethnic Naga insurgents loyal to the multi-ethnic United National Liberation Front of Western Southeast Asia (UNLFW) alliance had been killed, although the Times of India quoted an unnamed government official as claiming the figure could be more than 100 killed.
