Update: Japan delays C-2 service entry after door issue in testing

Japan is delaying the introduction into service of the Kawasaki C-2 transport aircraft to investigate why a door broke during pressurisation testing in January.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 4 July that it had decided to postpone the introduction of the Kawasaki C-2 transport aircraft into Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) service after an aft cargo door failed during flight testing at Gifu airbase.

Hirotaka Nose, director of the aircraft division at the MoD, said at a press conference that the Technical Research and Development Institute (TRDI) found there were technical gaps between the results of a computer simulation and those of the ground tests, that led to the damage of the cargo door and the rear fuselage.
