Surveillance from on high (ES14E3)

18 June 2014

Radar specialist Kelvin Hughes (Hall 5, Stand J488) has launched a Single Mast Solution at Eurosatory. SMS combines the company’s SharpEye SxV surveillance radar with electrooptical sensors to create a unit that can be attached to any mast system, whether it is portable, vehicle-mounted or fixed. SharpEye SxV is a lightweight (about 18kg) version of the company’s Long Range SharpEye X-band radar, and gives detection capability against small and slow-moving targets in adverse weather conditions. In the SMS application, it is mounted at the top of the mast, giving it an unrestricted view. Electrooptic sensors or cameras from various suppliers can be mounted below on either side of the mast.

Because SMS is a through-shaft unit with 360° pan and tilt capability, they can be operated independently of the radar.

To maximise the capabilities of the SMS, Kelvin Hughes has developed CxEye control and integration software, which combines radar and EO/camera imagery to build situational awareness. CxEye georeferences radar tracks and presents them on mapping tools on a laptop or touchscreen device.
