IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award Celebrates Saab AB Achievements

26 May 2014

Global award recognizes Saab AB for developing effective export strategy and driving export value through consolidated use of information, analytics and expertise

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (May 27, 2014) – IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of information and insight, today congratulated Saab AB for its selection as a 2014 IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award winner. This prestigious industry award program spotlights organizations and individuals around the world who make critical decisions and achieve their business goals through innovative use of information, analytics and expertise.

As Sweden’s largest provider of high-tech A&D solutions for military and civil applications, Saab was among the first to face changing market trends in defense spending and new regulations, and develop a successful strategy for continued global growth. With more than 14,000 employees serving customers in 100+ countries and with annual sales exceeding SEK24 billion, Saab leveraged IHS information and expertise to create a common, consistent foundation of global business intelligence that gives Saab’s leadership team added confidence as they make critical decisions that affect its share of markets around the world. Saab’s exports now comprise nearly three quarters of its total business each year.

“I’m delighted that Saab has been recognized for this remarkable achievement,” said Blake Bartlett, VP IHS Aerospace, Defense & Security, “It’s no secret that the aerospace and defense industry is facing some challenges at the moment, so it’s incredibly rewarding to be able to partner with an innovative company like Saab and help them not only to overcome those challenges but to create real export value at a time when many others are struggling.”

Saab received their award at a celebration for all seven 2014 IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award winners in Europe, which was held at the IHS Forum, focused on “Europe’s Global Competitiveness: Opportunities & Pathways,” in Berlin. Awards were presented during a dinner banquet on Tuesday, May 13.

Established in 2006, this popular IHS award program has recently expanded to honor achievements across a variety of workflows/disciplines including economics and country risk, environmental, health, safety and sustainability, pricing and purchasing, product design, supply chain and more.

“Peter Wibjörn’s approach to the Saab-IHS partnership has set the standard for collaborative success,” continued Blake Bartlett, “By working with our team to consolidate IHS information and insight and to facilitate support from IHS experts, he has ensured that everyone at Saab has access to comprehensive and reliable aerospace and defense business intelligence, and that his colleagues are able to make critical decisions, whether strategic or tactical, with confidence.”

Along with six other European award winners, Saab will also be considered as a nominee for the annual “Best of the Best” IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Award.

Nominations for the second and final round of 2014 IHS SPECTRUM Excellence Awards opened on May 15, 2014. Recipients of this year’s remaining awards – including the “Best of the Best” winner – will be announced in November 2014.
