CACI buys intel firm Bluestone Analytics

CACI International has paid approximately USD120.3 million to acquire two companies that will enhance its capabilities in open-source intelligence, satellite communications, and “specialised cyber”, according to the US government contractor.

“These are areas of significant growth potential over the next several years,” CACI president and CEO John Mengucci told analysts on 28 October.

CACI identified one of the companies as Bluestone Analytics based in Charlottesville, Virginia, which analyses open-source intelligence collected on the “dark web”. The dark web, which is often used to conduct illicit activity, is “of increasing importance, not only for law enforcement, but also for every aspect of national security and intelligence gathering”, Mengucci said.

CACI did not identify the other company it acquired.

CACI disclosed the acquisitions while releasing its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year (FY) 2022. Revenue from existing operations grew 2% to USD1.5 billion. Income from operations declined 5.5% to USD127 million, which CACI attributed to “unusually high profitability” in the year-ago quarter.

Mengucci said in April that his company was looking at potential acquisitions after buying intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance business Ascent Vision Technologies for USD350 million last year.
