Safran Electronics & Defense has been contracted to deliver four Patroller medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to the Greek Army.

NATO's Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) entered into negotiations and facilitated the contract on behalf of the Greek Army, the company announced at the Paris Air Show 2023, held between 19 to 25 June.

The UAVs will replace the army's Sperwer systems, which were introduced into service in 2004 and are significantly smaller and less capable than the Patroller.

Safran was unable to respond to Janes regarding contract timelines at the time of publication.

The Patroller was launched at the Paris Air Show in 2009, it has since been acquired by the French Army as its next-generation tactical UAV. In 2016, the army ordered 14 Patroller systems and ground control stations, a further five systems have since been ordered with an in-service date expected by 2030.
