Intel Briefing: French elections, the prospect for strategic autonomy, and defence spending in Europe

President Emanuel Macron is the first French president to get a second term since Jacques Chirac's re-election in 2002, 20 years ago. He will have to navigate a difficult post-Covid economic recovery that risks being side-tracked by the war in Ukraine and the corresponding increase in the price of oil and other commodities. The presentation will cover Macron's domestic and international priorities, with a focus on the French concept of strategic autonomy. We will also be examining the forecast for European defence spending in light of the situation in Ukraine.
