Satellite imagery analysed by Janes indicates that China has launched the large replenishment vessel under construction at the COMEC Longxue shipyard near Guangzhou.

An analysis of imagery from 9 July shows the ship still occupying a construction dock at the facility, while imagery from 12 July shows the dock flooded and the vessel moored alongside a nearby fitting-out berth.

This indicates that the vessel was launched sometime during the intervening period.

The launch marks a significant milestone for a programme first identified by Janes in March 2026.

At the time, satellite imagery revealed a large naval hull under construction in one of the shipyard's building docks, alongside several other vessels at various stages of assembly.

Based on measurements derived from the dock dimensions and surrounding infrastructure, Janes assessed the vessel to measure approximately 271 m in length with a beam of around 37 m.

These dimensions place the ship among the largest replenishment vessels currently under construction worldwide.

Although the latest imagery lacks the resolution necessary to identify specific equipment fits, the vessel's overall dimensions and hull form support assessments that it is intended for a fleet replenishment role.

The broad-beamed design provides substantial internal volume for fuel, ammunition, and dry stores, while the ship's scale suggests it is intended to support major fleet operations rather than routine logistical tasks.

The imagery available also points to a rapid pace of construction.
