Ecuador adapts Chinese truck for new military vehicle

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Defense announced the acquisition of the Páramo 4x4 tactical vehicle, the first military vehicle assembled in the country, according to a 22 July statement.

Developed on the platform of the JAC Frison T8 diesel truck, the vehicle was produced with the participation of Ecuadorian companies Armacar, Aymesa, and Autoexpress, which handled assembly, modifications, and logistical support, said Defense Minister Gian Carlo Loffredo during the vehicle's presentation ceremony on the same day.

The Páramo 4x4 is intended to strengthen patrol capabilities, territorial control, and support for security operations, officials said during the ceremony. It incorporates military adaptations such as ballistic armour, tactical equipment, and other systems designed to increase personnel protection, with the capacity to transport eight people: a driver, a commander, and six support personnel.

It's equipped with a 2.0L four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger and intercooler, delivering 160 hp at 3,600 rpm and 418 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,600 rpm, along with a six-speed manual transmission.

In terms of safety, it incorporates Electronic Stability Control (ESP), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), and a Traction Control System (TCS), among other features. Military versions add ballistic protection and specific equipment for tactical operations.
