Equatorial Guinea has signed a contract covering the delivery of armoured vehicles made by the Kader Factory for Developed Industries, which is part of the Egyptian state's Arab Organization for Industrialisation (AIO), the El-Watan news website reported on 11 January.

It cited Amr Abdel Aziz, the factory's chairperson, as saying an unspecified number of Kader-2 armoured vehicles and Kader-1 riot control vehicles would be delivered to Equatorial Guinea's Ministry of National Security. El-Watan said the Kader-2 was previously identified as the El-Daraa (Shield) when it was unveiled in December 2024.

Abdel Aziz added that the contract is the first to result from the company's decision two years ago to produce export-focused light armoured vehicles in addition to the Fahd armoured personnel carrier it has made in large numbers for the Egyptian Armed Forces and Ministry of Interior forces since 1984.

The announcement follows a visit by Equatorial Guinea's Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, who is the president's son and minister of defence and security, to Egypt in June 2024, during which he visited the Kader Factory.

This visit appears to have led to an agreement under which the Egyptian Ministry of Interior is training Equatoguinean police personnel. Egypt's State Information Service reported on 10 January that the programme had been extended by eight months and would result in 1,200 personnel being trained in Malabo, the capital of the West African country.
