Ukraine's Delta system to become ‘only source for data transfers' across AFU

Ukraine's Delta battlefield management system (BMS) will become “the only source for all data exchange” across the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), according to a 6 August social media post by Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal.

“It works everywhere – from a laptop, tablet, [and] phone and it is used by commanders on all levels,” according to Shmyhal's statement. Shmyhal also said he signed a decree to implement the Delta system “on all levels of the armed forces”.

The command-and-control (C2) system is used to destroy more than 2,000 enemy targets each day, according to the statement. Ukraine's defence minister said an AI component has been integrated into the system. It helps identify as well as target Russian equipment on the battlefield in real time, according to the statement.

It is not clear when the system will be fully integrated within the AFU or if it will become the main C2 system. Kropyva is another popular situational awareness (SA) system being used on the battlefield. Ukraine's Centre of Innovations and Defence Technologies Development, which created the system along with Ukrainian NGO Aerorozvidka, did not reply to request for comment at the time of publication.

The system's digital battlefield map uses data from various sources including sensors and satellites to display positions of enemy forces, according to information provided by Ukraine's Centre of Innovations and Defence Technologies Development.

The Delta system can trace, recognise, and process data about enemy forces and can be used to disseminate information to NATO allies and partners, a NATO representative told Janes in a January 2025 interview.
