Ukraine displays Coral air defence missile

Ukraine's state-owned defence conglomerate Ukroboronprom showcased a series of air defence munitions at the MSPO exhibition held in Kielce, Poland, from 8-11 September 2026.

Most of the munitions are already operational with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) or in testing, an official told Janes at the exhibition.

Speaking to Janes on 8th September at the event, the official suggested the range of air defence munitions presented by Ukroboronprom clearly illustrates the growing importance of surface-to-air systems across the contemporary operating environment.

Coral

Solutions showcased at MSPO included the Coral air defence missile, manufactured by Ukroboronprom subsidiary and munitions specialist Luch.

The short-range, surface-to-air missile is intended to be used to counter “modern aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles [UAVs] and other air targets”, a Luch representative told Janes , before confirming the Coral mission is currently in a testing phase ahead of entry into service.

The official also suggested the missile could be used to destroy “ground and surface targets…in exceptional circumstances”, without providing details.

According to the Luch representative, the air defence missile comprises an all up weight of 450 kg and carries a 36 kg warhead. It is guided by an inertial navigation system (INS), an undisclosed radio frequency communications suite, and an active radar seeker.

With a diameter between 230 and 300 mm, the missile measures 4.8 m in length with a wingspan of 835 mm.
